Role Description: This Research Assistant position (RA) supports the larger Future of North American Wildland Fire Science project, which seeks to improve the ways the wildland fire science community identifies, shares, and addresses real-world research needs.
The RA will conduct an environmental scan of organizations that aggregate, synthesize, or foresight research priorities. Beginning with wildfire, progressing to other natural hazards and natural resources topics, and then going more broadly as needed, this RA will identify organizations that help to (1) identify or aggregate practitioner research needs, (2) synthesize, summarize, or otherwise bring together these needs, and/or (3) work to anticipate and proactively identify future research needs.
The output of this RA work will be (1) a series of profiles of these organizations, including how they carry out their work; and (2) lessons learned for creating such an organization in wildfire.

Position Description: This Research Assistant position (RA) supports the larger Barriers and Enablers of Wildfire Mitigation project, which seeks to support increased uptake of wildfire mitigation efforts.
The RA will develop an overview (e.g., table, diagram, summary text, etc) of how different levels of sub-provincial/sub-territorial government are arranged across Canada (e.g., cities, towns, regional districts, municipalities, etc), and the official and de facto responsibilities of each level of government when it comes to wildfire mitigation projects.
The output of this work is expected to be a short paper outlining these government structures and how each level gets involved in wildfire mitigation work.

Position Description: This Research Assistant position (RA) supports the larger Barriers and Enablers of Wildfire Mitigation project, which seeks to support increased uptake of wildfire mitigation efforts.
The RA will conduct a literature review about research on barriers and enablers of local government (e.g., towns, municipalities, regional districts, etc) uptake of natural hazard mitigation effort. This will begin with wildfire, but very quickly expand to include other forms of mitigation (e.g., flooding, landslide, earthquake, etc).
The output of this work is expected to be a short paper outlining these barriers and enablers, comparing and contrasting different hazard types. This RA will also work closely with the other RA on this project to ensure alignment between projects.
